How to start a task
Starting a task signals “I’m working on this.”
Starting a task is optional. It’s a lightweight way to let your household know you’re working on something.
- In the Focus tab, tap a task under Start here, or Work on these to start the whole set
- In the Tasks tab, tap the circle to the left of a task
- Press and hold a task’s row and tap Start task
On iPhone, active tasks can also appear on your Lock Screen while you work. See Live Activities.
Note
Starting doesn’t affect when the task next comes up — only completing does. It also doesn’t claim the task: anyone can still complete it.
